Bathroom Duty Conversation

One of my duties during the day is to monitor the kindergarteners' bathrooms after lunch. I stand in the hall and provide crowd control....while one foot is in the boys' room and my neck is strained looking into the girls' restroom. It's not an easy task...I am raising tomorrow's adults.....so I am teaching them how to stand in line, not talk, wash their hands, get the trash INTO the trashcan. I am talking 60+++ kids in a 10-15 minute time period.

Conversation today.... with a girl just loitering around the doorway.

me "Okay, you've washed your hands, now go back to class."

her "But wait...."

me "What?"

her "You've never told me your favorite color...."

me "Well, it's red. What's yours?"

her "Pink."

me "Wow....and you have on a pink shirt. Okay, now go back to class."

her "Okay."

Made me think of Buddy the Elf.........."Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?" I dare you to ask someone tomorrow what their favorite color is. It will send a shot of warmth to their soul.

  1. ...that's such a cute story!

...just last weekend when our daughter was home from college visiting I asked her what her favorite color was... you know I didn't really know! funny thing was, she said, "I guess I don't really have a favorite color!" WHEW! I did know her after all!

  2. Oh my gosh, we are still twins separated by states. That is MY favorite line in the movie and when Maya calls that's always how I answer the phone. We are huge Will Ferrell fans in our house; we can quote every line from Talledega Nights, even Matt, that's the only time he can use bad words; we are very proud. Shake and bake!!!! Cute kids, you could write a book, you're a young, female Bill Cosby...
