Halfway There

Thursday, June 30, 2011

The first day we drove to New Orleans, about six hours away, a little more than halfway to Destin.  We decided to break the drive up so we wouldn't be totally exhausted on our first evening at the beach. Will was with us so we made a mini-vacation out of our stay for the night.  We ventured out to the French Quarter and ate at a restaurant called Irene's Cuisine, recommended to us by our neighbors who are from New Orleans.

If you've never been to New Orleans, it's like you're in a different country....well at least different from Texas.  The architecture, food, climate, accents ..........and the smell.  I hadn't been to the French Quarter in almost 12 years and I smelled it before I got to it.  One never forgets the smell....kind of like the smell coming from Casey Anthony's trunk.  Don't get me started on her...I'm having a hard time letting it go.

Will ordered Turtle Soup and Duck for his entree...and ate every bit of it.

This sweet man was eating at Krystal's and I asked him from outside
the window if I could take his picture.  He smiled sweetly and nodded his head.
 Perhaps he is a mime?

We ate, we walked and then we headed back to our hotel.  We would be back in a week on our way home.

  2. I just LOVE Nola, smell and all. We also LOVE Irene's. We stayed at a hotel there about 10 years ago & just happened upon it. We were back in Nola end of March. Irene's was booked solid so we ate at Emeril's Nola. Pretty good too. Jealous you went to Destin. Love that place too. Lotta love in this comment...
